hi. Need your help, really. My boyfriends car peugeot 406 coupe, 3.0 V6 got some problems. First they thought is cutch, so bought new one, replaced it. Clutch is doing great, just some grinding noise when engine is getting warm. They took clutch out and bought another one, thinking something wrong with this one. After they put 2nd clutch in there, sound got louder. After many hours of checking the car, they took gearbox and clutch out and started engine without, even if they knew its dangerous. But the noise was still there. So they are sure its nothing to do with clutch or gearbox at all. It must be an engine. The car is in our garage. To have it checked in service centre will cost a lot, cos they need to take everything out again, while we have it ready here for check. Please do you have any idea of the problem at all, does he need new engine?west midlands, or if you know somebody willing to come to check it here, we pay everything and i give him lift here and back as well.many thanks

Hello Petra.

Yes, this is what enables me to conclude for sure that this is indeed a crank pulley problem. The very fact that the gearbox and clutch have been removed and the noise is still there - verifies it. ie, the clutch & gearbox are totally out of the equation.

Plus .. to be honest, this is a common/well known problem with the Peugeot range -obviouslyy though the garage dealing with it doesnt know about it.

I hope you understand what Im describing - if not, pleae just re read the last post -- coupled with this one - and if you are still not sure - dont be afraid to ask. But if you mention to a garage ( perhaps a different garage) that you need the bottom crank shaft pulley looking at - they will know what you mean ;)

I hope this has helped you --

Again, if you are happy with the advice given - please press Accept - else I dont get paid for my time ;)

Kind regards, Mike
